05 JULY 2021: RIOT ANDROIDS – Cloud Fortune

The closing track from the Cumbria-based band’s latest EP is a masterpiece in melodic rock.

Riot Androids are a four-piece indie band hailing from Cumbria who have just released their second EP ‘Partial Recovery’. It’s an energetic collection which showcases the different facets of their sound perfectly – from classic punk rock to the wonderful, rich new wave vibe of ‘Cloud Fortune’, which is my personal highlight from the EP. There’s something of a Billy Idol-esque sound to this one – think ‘Rebel Yell’ or ‘White Wedding’ and you’re along the right lines. Right from the opening, there’s a real depth and intensity to the production, creating the ideal atmosphere for the vivid imagery to shine through the lyrics. The keys which come to prominence in the second verse emphasise this even further, and bring a lovely retro style to the melodies. I hope there’s more like this to come from them in future!
