‘Cry’ is a wonderful example of how a potentially melancholy subject paired with an upbeat production will always be a winning combination.

This one opens with a typically sparse pop production which allows the vulnerability of Betta Lemme’s lyrics and vocals to shine. The whole message is that even when faced with upsetting situations, things will turn out alright in the end. As the bridge builds though, this one is taken to another level by the spoken ‘it’s fine, it’s gonna be fine‘ lines overlaying the music, really putting the listener into the chaotic mindset of trying to convince yourself everything is okay. The onslaught of energy which follows from that post-chorus really is the standout section of the track, and it’s infectiously catchy too.
