London-based pop artist Ryro is a new talent who dropped his debut single at the start of this month. ‘Tidal Wave’ is all about rediscovering your sexual freedom after a heartbreak – which of course is a theme relevant to many, especially in the wake of lockdowns across the world which have resulted in social and sexual isolation. The lyrics pull no punches when it comes to how visceral and powerful this emotion is – particularly in the second verse, ‘right now, to love is everything / and I want to drown again‘ – and yet, alongside all this intensity, there’s a cheeky flirtatious undertone to his delivery too. This balance really highlights what a considered track this is, and suggests that Ryro will be an exciting creator to watch in future.
