It’s only March, but KIDDO has already claimed one of the most singalong pop songs of 2021 with her new one ‘My 100’.

A riotously catchy pop anthem based on a 17th century baroque composition? It’s more common than you’d think. ‘My 100’ is the latest in a string of modern tracks with the chord sequence of Johann Pachelbel’s ‘Canon in D’ as its backdrop – for other well-known examples, see Maroon 5’s ‘Memories’ and Alphaville’s ‘Forever Young’. This harmonic sequence gives KIDDO’s track an instant warmth and familiarity, which is a useful asset to allow all the attention to head towards her unusual vocals. The cracks and hiccups are artistically placed, and bring a lot of personality and emotion to her delivery on this extremely radio-friendly bop.
