30 JANUARY 2021: CAT & CALMELL – Dramatic

This quirky track from Australian duo Cat & Calmell is bursting with personality.

There’s a LOT to love about ‘Dramatic’. The groovy, bassline-driven production, and intonation of the lyrics are reminiscent of noughties alt-pop classics like Stefy’s ‘Chelsea’ and Aly & AJ’s ‘Potential Breakup Song’. The duo make this sound extremely contemporary in its minimalism though, with their spoken-singing style firmly placing them in a pretty cutting-edge space in pop music. It’s a salty, energetic, hugely enjoyable intro to the pair, and I for one can’t wait to hear more.
