06 JANUARY 2021: STEVE JAMES & ERIC NAM – Missing You

I’ve really enjoyed Steve James’ remixes for big tracks like Zara Larsson’s ‘Ruin My Life’ and Tinashe’s ‘Flame’, so this Eric Nam collaboration was an exciting discovery.

‘Missing You’ was actually released as a single back in 2019, but I discovered it recently as part of producer Steve James’ EP ‘+one’. The airy flute motif which recurs throughout the track is hauntingly beautiful, and reflects the melancholy longing in the lyrics. Indeed, what characterises the whole EP is Steve James’ use of unconventional drops, steering away from the expected electronic sounds and hinging whole productions on melodies like this one. Some of the greatest dance tracks of all time happen when the emotion of the melody and lyrics contrasts with the high energy of the production, and this is definitely one such song.
