If you’re yet to listen to CXLOE, this sublimely-produced masterpiece should get you hooked. And yes, that was a deliberate link to the lyrics – because ’12 Steps’ is all about how love is the biggest addiction of all. Bringing in the idea of 12 step recovery programmes is a really interesting angle, and one that allows for a new interpretation of the lyrics with every listen. For example, ‘I’m always 12 steps from your doorstep‘ – is she always one recovery away from going back to this lover? Or more literally that she physically can’t stay away? I love this one, and the reverb-heavy industrial production is the perfect representation of the chaos being described.
