23 AUGUST 2020: BTS – Dynamite
Smashing YouTube records and heading for the top spot in multiple countries, this is surely the biggest track to ever come out of the K-Pop scene.
BTS’s new single ‘Dynamite’ is their first recording fully in English, and it’s already broken the record for the most YouTube views in a 24-hour period, having only been released on Friday. Whether you’ve followed the K-Pop scene for long or not, it’s undeniably exciting to have such a massive international buzz around a track from outside of the anglophone recording nations who usually dominate international charts. As a track in its own right, ‘Dynamite’ isn’t exactly ground-breakingly original, with clear influences in both the rhythms and production from tracks like ‘Can’t Stop The Feeling’ and ‘Uptown Funk’ (and, let’s be fair, ‘light it up like dynamite‘ is a well-trodden lyrical cliche in itself, but I digress…) All that aside, it’s still one hell of an irresistible sunny bop, and that ‘na-na-na’ hook is up there with the catchiest things we’ve heard all year. This should introduce BTS to a whole new audience worldwide, and it’s pretty much guaranteed to be a well-deserved success.
