iiO’s worldwide smash ‘Rapture’ remains a cult house classic to this day, but why has the sublime follow-up been forgotten?
Everything about this track is hypnotic. Throughout, Nadia Ali’s distinctive voice blends perfectly with the dreamy production, and provides layer upon swirling layer of vocal backing motifs to back up an already strong main melody. The mesmerising effect is particularly evident in the titular ‘at the end at the end at the end‘ refrain, a massively underrated earworm in its own right. It was a very cutting-edge, futuristic sound at the time, and it’s aged incredibly well – this could be released today with minimal tweaks and nobody would be able to tell it’s actually nearly twenty years old. Magical.
