She’s quickly establishing herself as one of pop’s most reliable new artists and I’m very much here for it.

Having kick-started her career with such a monster hit as ‘Sweet But Psycho’, all of Ava Max’s subsequent releases are almost under more pressure to meet or exceed that standard. ‘Torn’ is absolutely delivering though. Her voice sounds as distinctive as ever, and she’s come up with yet another catchy chorus to match with it. The subtle hints towards ABBA’s ‘Gimme Gimme Gimme’ keyboard riff are a genius addition, and gift the 70s-influenced production with a whole load more authenticity.
